We all have our own ‘tartan’ story. What pattern do the threads of your life, your story, create?
My tartan is the Murray tartan.

We all have our own ‘tartan’ story, even if you are not from Scotland. What pattern do the threads of your life, your story, create?
-
Today (25th January) I celebrate my Scottish roots. In Scotland it is the day to celebrate our national poet and songwriter - Robert Burns. It is tradition to celebrate in community groups together in the evening, eat haggis, drink a wee bit of whiskey, sing songs, recite poetry, listen to bagpipes and wear something tartan!
-
Tomorrow (26th January) I celebrate my home of 20 years, Australia with Australia day. My ‘tartan’ has been added to and has changed over the years.
-
The cloth of my life and the threads which make it have changed over the years. I have had my fair share of knots and breaks. Some threads have had to be replaced, mended, patched. Others have got stronger as they have twisted with another to form a stronger cord. Some of the threads have been shiny, sparkly new and bright, others a more constant simple enduring colour.
-
My original ‘tartan’ had threads of my upbringing, my family’s stories, experiences, and a broader story of Scotland with its customs, ancestry, the heritage of a nation interwoven.
-
When I emigrated to Australia as a newlywed, I brought my ‘tartan’ and have been adding my own threads, my own colours, and patterns ever since. My marriage, each of my children, my work as a lawyer, the community I live in, and the wider Australian influence, customs, traditions… all of these have created (and keeps creating) a unique pattern, The Deirdre Kate May Tartan.

We each bring our own cloth to supervision.
-
There is no cookie cutter, one-pattern-fits-all approach in professional supervision. Each supervision is focused on your unique pattern, the different threads you bring and looks in particular at your work-life thread and its contribution to your pattern, how it interacts with the other threads in your life and has a role to play in the make up of your unique life fabric.

I will stop the analogy before I get into how professional supervision can be tailored to your unique needs! 😆
